Autumn Notes on the Piano...and Tabletop

I love this old brass door knocker.  I tried to have it installed on my front door but just couldn't get it to work.  It sat around from a while and then one day inspiration hit and I stuck in in the keyhole of my old wooden box.  I love it here.

I love this old miner's gas lamp.  I found an advertisement on the internet so thought I would frame it to go alongside the piece. The lamp was inherited from my husband's grandmother from England.

Inspired by the creative ability of the Nester www.thenester.com and Donna from Funky Junk Interiors www.funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com, I have decided to bite the bullet and post some photographs of my own decorating style.

I love the cool colors of the Nester's style but when I try it I always seem to have to add a touch of orange.  Anytime, I try to break out of a decorating rut and paint my walls pale blue or shades of neutral, it lasts about two weeks and off I head to the paint store.
The closest I have got to Donna's funky style is to leave my silver unpolished and let my brass build up it's lovely green patina.  Any rusty pieces that I love are used to decorate in my garden.  Again, I try but my own style just takes over.

I have noticed that taking photographs of your home really helps you focus on the details.  I hope that by taking photographs and reading your comments that I will be able to develop my own decorating style.  Over time, I may even learn how do do "cool" and where to leave "rust".
